Located just four miles north-east of Harrogate, the historic market town of Knaresborough has a number of attractions and events held throughout the year, including the famous 'Knaresborough Bed Race' in which teams parade decorated beds through the streets before taking part in a time-trial race which includes a plunge into the River Nidd. Markets are held in the town square every Wednesday.

Knaresborough Castle, dating back to the 12th Century (Norman times) is situated on top a large cliff overlooking Knaresborough Forest and the River Nidd. The castle is open for visitors between 1030 and 1700 from Easter Bank Holiday until September.
Mother Shipton's Cave can be found near the banks of the River Nidd. This cave is the birthplace of the legendary Mother Shipton - a prophetess and seer in the 16th Century. In time, the petrifying well found here can turn everyday objects into stone!
